Welcome to Dell Tech Support. PC not turning on? Today we’ll go over some basic troubleshooting steps for no power issues. The first thing to do is to determine if it actually is a no power issue. Check to see if the LED for power turns on when you turn on the system. If it doesn’t, then most likely it is a power issue. The next step is to check the power cables. Look for any damage, and if the cable is damaged, replace it. You can also try using a different cable. On notebook adapters you will see a power LED. If it is off, check the cable connections. Also check if the LED is on when the adapter is plugged in but not connected to the system. Some Desktop power supplies come equipped with a self-test button. You will find this button on the back panel of the tower. When you press it, the LED should come on as long as the button is depressed, additionally if the power supply unit has its own fan, you should hear the fan running. Another thing to check is the power outlet. Switch to a different one to see if this solves the problem. The last thing you can try is a complete power drain. This will remove any residual static energy which can actually impede your system from turning on. Disconnect the power cable from your PC. For Notebooks, you will also need to remove the external battery. Next, press and hold the power button for about 20 seconds. Afterwards, reconnect the power cable and try turning on the system. For Notebooks with an internal battery, press the reset button.
